My name is Haze, from Madura Island, Indonesia. 🇮🇩
For this challenge, I wanted to share more than just food—I wanted to share a piece of my home.
Madura is a small island in East Java, Indonesia, known for its rich traditions, warm hospitality, and strong cultural identity. One of its most iconic culinary treasures is Sate Madura—grilled over charcoal and served with its signature rich peanut sauce. For many Indonesians, it's more than a meal; it's a taste of home.
Every element in this short film was inspired by the culture I grew up with.
The male vendor wears traditional Madurese attire inspired by Sakera, complete with the iconic black clothing and Odheng Madura, symbolizing courage, honor, and resilience.
The female character wears a modern interpretation of traditional Madurese clothing, featuring a black kebaya, Batik Gentongan, and a flowing red selendang, representing the elegance and beauty of Madurese women.
Beyond the food, I wanted to capture the soul of everyday life in Madura—children playing together, young people practicing Pencak Silat, families gathering, and the quiet kindness that exists in simple moments.
The little cat acts as a silent guide, leading the audience through this journey and connecting every scene with warmth and curiosity.
I hope this film allows people around the world to discover a small part of Madura—not only through its cuisine, but also through its traditions, its people, and its heart.
Thank you for watching.
From Madura, with love. ❤️
